Welcome to the February Tour de Freaks where we are celebrating all things Spring!! We will each be featuring new products from the Spring Catalog which is chock full of wonderful products for all of your Spring-time creations!

You have probably arrived here from Yvette Ashe’s blog at Yvette’s Paper Garden. If not, be sure to follow the tour all the way around until you get back here to make sure you see everyone’s blogs and wonderful creations!

Do you love the Spring Catalog as much as I do?? I bought several things I fell in love with right away during our preorder period (a demonstrator perk), but have continued to buy as I’ve continued to fall in love with things I see used on other people’s creations. There’s so much wonderful product in there and I’ve seen it used in so many creative ways that I seem to always get enabled to buy something I didn’t think I was going to. Hopefully we’ll be doing some enabling with you today!

The Swallowtail stamp is one that I really didn’t plan to buy from the first time I saw the catalog. My wife immediately loved it though so I figured I’d get it eventually (even though she doesn’t get much time to create. I bought it much sooner than I planned once I started seeing some of the amazing projects out there using this stamp. I love how I’ve seen it used as a simple and subtle background!

The Paper Doilies are an item I knew I wanted right away! Doilies are SO popular right now and these are so easy and so affordable! You get 24 of them in a package for only $2.95!! I love that kind of economical pricing! Other catalog favorites on this card include the Bitty Butterfly Punch, the “Oh, Hello” stamp set, the “Tea for Two” DSP, and the Designer Builder Brads.

This card uses product mostly from our Sale-a-Bration brochure, but there are two fun items on here from the Spring Catalog. The Bitty Butterfly punch and the 7/8” Scallop Circle punch both make an appearance on this card. I love scalloped circles that are cut between each scallop for a fun little flower effect! If the paper, ribbon, button, or stamp set on this card pique your interest, be sure to talk to your demonstrator about Sale-A-Bration and how you can earn them!

This last card is a very product intensive card, but I wanted to showcase the Soda Pop bottle caps, the C’oredinations cardstock, and the Collage Curios stamp set and I just loved the design of the card I CASEd this from so I went with it! I really love how you can layer the Collage Curios stamp set and all of the images in the set will fit nicely inside our new bottle caps!

Control Freaks Sale-a-Bration!!!

Welcome to the first Tour de Freaks of 2013!! We are are Sale-a-brating the arrival of Stampin’ Up’s biggest event of the year. Sale-a-Bration begins Tuesday, January 22 and goes through March 22. If you aren’t aware of what Sale-a-Bration is, contact me and I’d be happy to discuss it with you.

Sale-a-bration is certainly one of my favorite times of the Stampin’ Up year. I love to see all the fabulous products that Stampin Up gives us just for spending money we would already be spending anyway. I love that they do this!

Let’s get started with the reason you’re here.

Hexagons are a very popular shape in the world of design right now. You’ll see them in fashion, interior design, graphic design, and of course artistic design. Stampin’ Up even released a hexagon (honeycomb) embossing folder in our Spring Catalog. I wanted some hexagons a little bolder and bigger than we get with the embossing folder so I used my electronic cutter and cut some out of our Sycamore Street paper from Sale-a-bration!

For this last card I wanted to feature one of my favorite products from Sale-a-Bration. One of the coolest things they’ve done the past two years is include a My Digital Studio collection disc that includes all of the items in the Sale-a-Bration brochure in a digital format. That is always the first item I make sure to get during Sale-a-Bration. I love having all of those wonderful products on one collection disc!

This card is a hybrid card featuring the ferris wheel stamp from the Feeling Sentimental stamp set. In My Digital Studio I was able to size it up to be a powerful focal image here as well as create the background that it is set against. After I printed it off, I put it on a card base and added some traditional elements for a fun and trendy masculine card.

So I missed a few Fab Friday submissions during the holidays (hope you continued to play along) and I'm glad to be back with our first challenge of the new year.

This week's challenge is a simple sketch.

Although I love a beautiful snowflake stamp or image on a card, I am NOT a fan of January at all! I hate how cold and hazy it is with no fun holidays to look forward to. So I decided to skip over the glum of January and head right to the fun of February and Valentine's Day.

Christmas with the Freaks!!!

Welcome to the Christmas Control Freaks Blog Tour!! The Tour does not actually go live until tomorrow, so if all links are not working yet please check back later.

 It's finally time for us to share our Christmas creations with you! The Control Freaks had a Christmas swap a few months ago and in the stamping business Christmas has already been around for a while. I'm glad to be able to share some of my Christmas creations with you.

All four of these cards are cards that we made at my Stamping Club this month. I had such a hard time limiting my choices down to only four cards to share with my group. There are so many fabulous products and wonderful designs out there that I've been inspired by!

This card was inspired by one I received in the Control Freaks Christmas swap by the wonderfully talented Connie Babbert.

I love the simple beauty of a white on white card, especially when you add texture by embossing and scoring. I would have liked to stamp the sentiment in silver, but since we don't have silver ink and I didn't want to emboss, I went with Midnight Muse instead and like how it turned out.

I just LOVE how fun and festive this card feels!! I love how versatile Circle Circus can be for nearly any holiday. We hadn't used it in club for a while and it was nice to pull this stamp set out again. It's made even more fun and cheerful with a sentiment from Wacky Wishes from the 2012-2013 Annual Catalog.

Doesn't this card just ooze of elegant beauty?? I love the flourish from Everything Eleanor, the fancy sentiment from More Merry Message and all of the shimmer and glimmer on the focal image. It's hard to tell from the picture, but the focal image is on Glossy White cardstock and has a beautiful shine! The rhinestones are the perfect touch to make these snowflakes absolutely stunning. 

This card used the embossed resist technique with Midnight Muse and Baja Breeze inks along with clear embossing powder on Glossy White cardstock. Love the affect!!

It's a Fab Friday!!

This color palette was perfect for me to create my last card with a Fall feel to it before moving on to my Christmas creations. I immediately turned to our Comfort Cafe DSP and my French Foliage stamp set for my creation. (Can you believe I just barely got this stamp set???)

Here's a side angle view so you can see how the focal image area comes out from the card base.

For now I left the card without a sentiment so I can make it into whatever kind of card I need when I need to use it.

The design of the card was inspired by this card that I saw on Splitcoast Stampers. I love getting inspiration from other stampers and then making the project my own!

Fab Friday #5

Woohoo!!! It's Friday!!!

Not only is Friday a totally awesome day itself, but it's made even better every other week with the Fabulous Friday Challenge!

I can't believe we're already on our 5th challenge! We've had so much wonderful support from everyone so far. It's wonderful to see all of the submissions from everyone and is often so hard for us to pick the Fab Favorites.

Sorry I missed the last two challenges, but I was just not feeling well enough to get them done in time. I'm glad to be back though!

This week's challenge is a sketch challenge sketched by our fearless leader Mindy Backes.

I actually had a hard time following the sketch as it's laid out so I had to tweak the sketch a little bit. My fellow designers all did a wonderful job with the sketch!

Freaky for the men …

Welcome to the Control Freaks Tour for the month of October! This month we are sharing projects “for the men in our lives”.

You’ve likely arrived here from Yvette’s blog at Yvette’s Paper Garden. If not, that’s fine too. Start here and follow the lineup I have posted at the bottom of this post.

I don’t often make cards for men because most of the men I know in my life would not appreciate the work that goes into a card. Even though I am a man, I find masculine cards just as difficult to create as most of you women do. I’m just use to using flowers, butterflies, and ribbon on all of my cards too.

Here are my attempts at masculine:

This card is almost a direct CASE from the Annual Catalog. You can see the inspiration for this card on page 125 of the Annual Catalog. You can see I changed up a few things but I always like to make a card my own.



The next two cards are hybrid cards using My Digital Studio.

I really wanted to use French Foliage for one of my cards but I just haven't bought that stamp set yet (horrible...I know) so I turned to the digital version of it in My Digital Studio. I created the whole strip of stamped images in My Digital Studio and then printed and cut it out to use on a hybrid card. All the rest of the elements are traditional elements.



This one is also a hybrid card. I really wanted to do the stacked chevrons and used the fabulous new Coloring Tool in MDS2 to color the individual stripes of the chevron stamp to my liking. I absolutely love that new feature!! The majority of this card is digital. I printed it out and then inked the edges of it and mounted it on cardstock for the hybrid factor.



I absolutely love the layers of this card. Baja Breeze has got to be my all time favorite masculine blue color in our palette.


I wasn’t able to get a 3-D project done for you this month so I threw in an extra card.
